Fever is the body's natural response to infection. In most cases it can be managed at home, but certain situations need prompt care.
Seek care promptly if
- An infant under 3 months has any fever (100.4°F / 38°C or higher)
- A fever climbs above 103°F (39.4°C) in an adult
- Fever lasts more than three days
- It comes with a stiff neck, rash, confusion, trouble breathing, or dehydration
At home, rest, fluids, and acetaminophen or ibuprofen usually help. If you're unsure, walk in or start a telehealth visit and we'll help you decide on next steps.
