What is strep throat?
Strep throat is a bacterial throat infection (Group A Streptococcus) that causes sudden severe sore throat and fever — and unlike viral sore throats, it needs antibiotics.
Can urgent care treat strep throat?
Yes — rapid strep testing and same-visit antibiotics are core urgent care services. At Daystar the test takes 5 minutes.
How long is strep throat contagious?
Contagious until 24 hours after starting antibiotics and until fever-free — most people can return to school or work the next day after beginning treatment.
Can you have strep throat without a fever?
Yes — about 30–40% of strep cases present without fever, particularly in adults. The full Centor criteria (swollen glands, white patches, no cough) still warrant a rapid test.
Is bronchitis contagious?
Acute bronchitis is usually caused by a contagious virus. The virus spreads for the first 2–5 days; the cough lingers up to 3 weeks due to airway irritation, not ongoing infection.
What is walking pneumonia?
Walking pneumonia (mycoplasma pneumonia) is a mild lung infection that feels like a bad cold — often diagnosed because a cough doesn't improve after 3 weeks.
